He has undoubtedly, the most famous blue eyes in the history of film.
Thanks to outstanding work in toles such as "Hud, the hustler" and, teamed
with actor Robert Redford as one half of the infamous "Butch Cassidy and the
Sundance Kid" duo, Paul Newman is one of the biggest legends the silver screen
has ever produced.
To fans of Auto Racing, he's the consummate car guy. Born in Cleveland, Ohio in
1925, Newman could very well have pursued a career with the family's sporting
goods store but college drama productions gave him a taste of the stage. The die
was cast and he decided to follow the call of the limelight.
During the 1960's, Paul Newman became a top box office drawing card. A superstar
sex symbol with several acadamy award nominations. Most recently he was the voice
of Doc Hudson in Pixar's animated smash-hit "Cars".
Far more than just a celluloid celebrity, Newman with wife Joanne Woodward-an accomplished and well respected actress in her own right - is socially and politically active. She is also a generous philanthropist, establishing the
Hole in the wall Gang camp for children with cancer. Paul Newman's own food
company started almost as a Lark, has donated over one hundred million dollars
to various charities.
Playing an Indy car driver in the 1969's winning sparked Newman's passion for racing. His first career victory in a Lotus Elan was followed by winning the President's Cup - the highest honour in amateur racing. After turning Pro in 1977,
Newman's team placed second in the world's most prestigious endurance road race,
the 24 hours of LeMans. For any race car driver, these were brillant achievements indeed. In the 1980's, Paul Newman formed his own Champ Car team with Mario Andretti
driving. Newman/Hass/Lanigan racing has won over 97 races, including several championships, titles, and series crown's
Paul Newman is behind the wheel less frequently these days but at 80 years old, he
completed the 24-hours of Daytona and still races occasionally at Lime Rock says Newman. "I'll keep driving as long as I'm competitive and as long as I don't embarrass myself."
