In celebration of Halloween, we’re featuring the scariest and most terrifying landmarks to visit in all of Canada. Each location has its own real ghost stories, sightings, and haunted tours that take you deep into the past to explore their truly side of scary history. Shadowlands.net has compiled a list of all the most haunted places to visit across Canada if you are in need of a good fright – or a good history lesson. Happy Haunting!

Banff Springs Hotel, Alberta
- What happened to room 873? Employees of the Banff Spring Hotel claim that they are not allowed discussing the mysteriously boarded up room, but the story says that a family was murdered there in the early 1900s. The hotel was going to continue using the room but no matter how hard they cleaned one of the mirrors, fingerprints from the awful night could not be removed. Guests claim to regularly see ghosts wandering the halls and often hear voices when nobody is nearby. There is also the story of a ghost bellhop who has been known to unlock doors and even move the luggage of guests staying in the haunted hotel.

The Grange, Toronto, Ontario
- Known also as the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Grange was a home built in 1817. By 1911 the house claimed to be haunted and was turned into a public art gallery. Many visitors have claimed to have seen phantom lights, and in some cases, spirits have shown themselves in the hallways. There was one instance where a witness saw a man in a yellow velvet waistcoat walk through a wall where a door used to be. The oldest building in Toronto, the Art Galley (or the Grange), has been remodeled over the years but still remains one of the most haunted buildings in Canada.

Caledonia Mills, Nova Scotia
- The Mary Ellen Spook house is located in Caledonia Mills, Nova Scotia. In the early 1900’s, a family adopted a young girl by the name of Mary Ellen but had no idea what was in store for them. Once the girl arrived, fires started lighting themselves, even when young Mary wasn’t around. Doors would open and shut themselves, and the family would hear strange voices from the hallways. Police were eventually called in, but were baffled and a Priest was asked to come and investigate. The family eventually moved out, and the house burned to the ground. Now a landmark, some unlucky visitors to the Spook House have stolen from the remains and once home, have claimed to watch as their houses burst into flames. It is said that the only way to reverse the curse is to return the stolen artifacts to the original Mary Ellen Spook house.

The Plains of Abraham, Quebec
- In 1759, the French and English waged war on the Plains of Abraham, spilling the blood of hundreds of soldiers. The tunnels located next to the battlefield park have been said to have many ghosts who haunt them. Many people claim to smell cannon sulfur, and get chills down their backs. In the mid evening, don’t be surprised if you come face to face with one or many of the soldiers who haunt the fields and tunnels. The Plains of Abraham remains one of the most haunted areas in all of Quebec.

Saskatchewan Hospital, North Battleford - Saskatchewan
- A self-sufficient mental hospital in the 1900’s, both the staff and patients lived and died on the North Battleford grounds. In the 1930’s after one of the Hospital wings caught fire, one woman was very badly burned, and is said to haunt the grounds - burn marks still showing. The tunnels underneath the grounds connect the different buildings and are also haunted. Many of the staff members claim to walk right past ghosts while traveling through the tunnels, only to have the spirits disappear right before their eyes. Visitors also claim to hear voices, whispers, and see many ghosts within the walls of the haunted hospital. Don’t be surprised to feel chills while visiting this creepy location - you may even feel as if you are being watched.
